In the last few weeks I’ve had a chance to read a number of books in the little down time I’ve had. Its given me a lot to think about. One of the books I read was The Thank You Economy. It really gave me a lot to think about, and it will be required reading for anyone that I hire to work with me to run this site when things grow. Its really a way of live that just gives back to everyone as much as you can.
It really struck a cord with me on how I want to run this site and inspired me. It was a lot like another book I read before, FREE: The Future of a Radical Price. Free was the book that got me going with building this site with the intention of having all the content available for free to help anyone who was an expat, or was just hoping to plan a vacation. The Thank You Economy gave me the mindset of how to approach everything, how to go about helping everyone and how to put yourself out there so that you can really help people in a way that they need it.
It does not mean that there will not be affiliate links like the 2 for the books below which I just talked about. Affiliate links are a minimally invasive way to make a little money to help keep the website going by covering the costs of running the servers and other fees that come from powering a website.
It means not blasting people with sales emails, or social media posts that try hit you with sales or look at me. Its posting or emailing with the intent of helping people, and building conversations and relationships with people. Recently I’ve been setting up a page with inspirational travel quotes, and there are more than 100 of them there. All the images that we use will be used for our different social media platforms. I wanted to use them as a daily pick me up, and maybe to use them to spur some interesting conversations.
So you can see all of these images we have now before we even post anything to the social media pages next month at the above link. There will be more to add as there are a lot more travel quotes to inspire people out there.
The other things I’ve recently been working on was a guide to avoid being scammed when you take a taxi. In all of the countries I’ve visited I’ve had quite a few different tricks pulled on me, and I’ve heard about others being tried on different people. This isn’t a guide on getting free rides or how to cheat them, its about getting the ride you asked for at a fair price without being taken advantage of. That guide is called Avoiding The Taxi Scam, and you can read that now. There is still a few more things I’m adding for links to different ride share apps so that there are alternatives to taking a traditional taxi.
The last thing I wrapped up this week is Everything You Need To Know About Cruises. Its 15 things that everyone should know if they’re thinking about taking a cruise. Honestly there are a lot more things to know so there will likely be a part 2 or even part 3 eventually. Its just a great list of things to think about, the dos and don’ts as well as tips on making the experience a lot better.
